I constantly buy storeable food from several vendors. Most all have various likeable attributes and a combination of food types can be stored for a “rainy day”. I believe the old adage that, “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”, can be really true. I am serious about owning and holding consumable goods such as food.
I like the items and packaging from: http://www.mypatriotsupply.com/?Click=147060 where I have an affiliate account.
In this installment, I elected to test Traveler’s Stew, Red Beans and Freeze Dried Chicken chunks. All items come packed in sealed, four serving, Mylar bags and are said to maintain their goodness in suitable storage for a 25 year period.
5 cups of water were brought to a boil. One package (4 servings) of Traveler’s Stew was whisked into the water, boiled for another two minutes and then transferred to my Crock Pot.
INGREDIENTS: Long Grain White Rice, lentils, elbow macaroni (semolina, niacin, ferrous sulfate [iron], thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), chicken bouillon (chicken soup base [corn syrup solids, salt, corn starch, hydrolyzed corn, soy protein, rendered chicken fat, sugar, onion powder, disodium inosinate, disodium guanylate, spices, turmeric, dehydrated parsley, silicon dioxide], salt sugar, sweet whey, turmeric, garlic powder, caramel color, dehydrated onion), carrot dices, celery slices, chopped onion. Allergens: Wheat, soy and dairy.
I re hydrated a package of Red Beans and a package of chicken in about 2 cups of water– just 3 to 5 minutes– the chicken will be ready, the beans are not important, for now.
This was transferred into the pot. My thinking is that I will check this in about 3 hours, cooking on a “high” setting.
I’m trying this Crock Pot/ slow cooker idea, because I also test Solar power and battery back-up, thus I hope I can easily cook such items from a battery and AC power converter. I plan to show my simple battery powered system, and perhaps I will cook on it in another segment..
The Patriot Supply Pantry has a great selection of foods, which can be combined to produce something to your liking. With herbs and spices from you garden thrown in, “hard times” will seem a little simpler.
Please consider using the affiliate link above, from which I would receive some support. I use items from My Patriot Supply and other companies, in my storage system and this is one of the companies, which I can attest, provides wonderful service. Thanks. Please comment.
Oh, by the way, it was delicious! God bless.
